Alternatives and free plans: what free actually hides
Six of the nine tools on this page have a recurring free offer. None comes without a catch, and the catch is not in the same place twice.

The catch almost always hides in one of three places: a watermark, a lowered export resolution, or how long files are kept. Budget only becomes a question once you know which of the three bothers you.

The three places the catch hides
Watermarks first: Snip, Opus Clip, Vizard and Submagic all apply one on their free offer. 2short.ai states there are none across its plans, and StreamLadder states none on basic edits, with a watermark appearing if you use a paid feature.
Resolution next: Vizard and Quso.ai render 720p on their free tiers, and StreamLadder reserves 1080p for its Gold tier. Snip, Opus Clip and 2short.ai advertise 1080p from the free tier.
Retention last, and it is the one people forget: Opus Clip and Vizard delete free-tier files after 3 days, Quso.ai after 7. A lost render is quota you pay twice.
The no-watermark trap
Two tools advertise no watermark without paying, and in both cases the limit sits elsewhere. On 2short.ai the free plan only analyses 30 minutes of video a month, half of what Snip, Vizard and Opus Clip give. On StreamLadder the watermark returns as soon as you use a paid feature, and 1080p is advertised on the Gold tier.
In other words, none of these free plans is better at everything: they move the constraint around. Pick the one whose constraint does not apply to you, rather than the one with the biggest number.
What a free plan will never tell you
How it holds up at volume. One trial video says nothing about the tenth clip of a busy week, or about queue times when everyone exports at once. It says nothing about selection quality on a format you have not tried yet either.
What a free plan does tell you well is the framing and the caption style on your own source. That is exactly what a table cannot compare, and the reason to run the same video through two or three tools before paying for any of them.
